Welcome to Troop 50 Sarasota!

Scouts BSA Troop 50 is part of the Southwest Florida Council in the Two Rivers District, in Sarasota, Florida.  Troop 50 is recognized as the 2nd oldest Scout Troop in the Two Rivers District and we are the oldest continuously operating Scout Troop in Sarasota County, being established in December 1954.  We proudly celebrated 65 years of Scouting with our sponsor, Pine Shores Presbyterian Church in 2019.  Troop 50 is a scout-led troop that is mentored and supervised by adult volunteer leaders. Parents are an integral part of our troop program as well. It is through their participation as Assistant Scout Masters and Troop Committee members that we can provide a safe, interesting and fun program. We currently have over 45 active youth and 25 registered adult leaders in Troop 50.

Boys ages 11 - 17 are invited to join our troop. The purpose of Scouting is to instill the aims of scouting through methods that include the ideals of the Scout Oath and Scout Law, the patrol system, outdoor adventures, rank advancement, personal growth and most importantly leadership development. Since inception, Troop 50 has produced over 139 Eagle Scouts, and over the last 5 years, we have helped over 30 Scouts earn the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Our program has been recognized as a leader in the development of Scouts who aspire to reach the pinnacle of Scouting by earning the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Since the inception of the Eagle Scout rank in 1911, less than 5% of Scouts have earned this rank which recognizes a life long commitment to the Scout Oath and Law and symbolizes the highest principals of the world wide Scouting Movement.

Troop 50 has a robust outdoor program that includes monthly campouts and summer camp programs each year to learn, build friendships, earn merit badges, and to work on rank advancement. Older Scouts (Age 14 & up) are permitted to attend High Adventure Camps to Philmont (New Mexico), Northern Tier (Minnesota) and Sea Base (Florida Keys & USVI). Camping, Summer Camps and High Adventure Camps are cornerstones of the Scouting experience and Troop 50 encourages all Scouts to participate during their Scouting careers. These outdoor experiences and adventures help build team work, leadership skills and life long memories with fellow Scouts.

Troop 50 participates in numerous volunteer service projects in the community such as flag retirement ceremonies, working with the salvation army to distribute Christmas gifts to needy families, memorial day ceremonies at local retirement homes, and cleanups in our state parks.

We meet Tuesday evenings during the school year from 7:00 to 8:30pm at Pine Shores Presbyterian Church in their Community Center Building located at 6135 Beechwood Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34231. Please contact Scoutmaster Alister Munroe at (941) 284-1720 or you can email him at amunroetroop50@gmail.com for more information.
